We’ve all been there on Football Manager, haven’t we?

Somehow, for no discernible reason, you accidentally leave a big name out of your domestic or European squad.

Incredibly, though, this has now occurred in real-life, involving Ajax and their record signing Sebastien Haller.

Clubs competing in the Europa League round of 32 stages confirmed their 25-man squads on Wednesday, but the former West Ham striker was not included in Ajax’s list.

Haller has already made a big impact at the Johan Cruyff Arena, notching two goals and producing four assists in his first six games for the Dutch giants.

Many took to social media in bewilderment at the omission, with Ajax later releasing a statement of their own to update their supporters.

“It is indeed true that Haller is not on our Europa League list of players,” an Ajax spokesperson told ESPN NL. “We are working with the KNVB and UEFA to find out where things went wrong.”

It remains unclear whether the error was caused by Ajax, the Dutch FA or UEFA.

However, if it is proven that Ajax are at fault then Haller will take no part in this stage of the competition.

The runaway Eredivisie leaders did, however, successfully register Sevilla loanee Oussama Idrissi in their squad.

Imagine being a fly on the wall when manager Erik ten Hag found out about this episode!

Let’s just hope the error was made through no fault of Ajax’s, or there could be a few choice words from the manager for those responsible for the mistake.
