Kieran Tierney is an Arsenal captain in the making and has to be told to calm down in training due to his ‘ferocious’ tackling, Martin Keown has claimed.

The Gunners extended their winning streak to three games on Saturday night with a 4-0 win over West Bromwich Albion, and the Scotsman delivered the opener.

A meandering dribble from the left saw him arrive in the penalty area before whipping a right-foot shot beyond Sam Johnstone, prompting his teammates into a big celebration, such is his popularity in the squad.

Even when Arsenal’s form was in decline, the left-back was a standout performer for Mikel Arteta with reliable displays and an impressive attitude.

He was always attempting to rallying the Gunners and his character is certainly impressing one club legend.

Keown told BT Sport: “Right from the beginning I could see there was a determination about him.

Perry Groves says Sead Kolasinac won’t be the last player to leave Arsenal this season and believes it’s time for Mikel Arteta to get rid of all the ‘deadwood’ at the club

“He’s just the right type that you need… his personality, character.

“He’s a driving force and he’s a throwback.

“In training, they have to tell him to calm down because he’s tackling ferociously. I really like that attitude that he brings.

“He has got everything in his game, it’s about building around him. Perhaps an Arsenal captain in the making.”

Gareth Barry, who was also a pundit for BT Sport on the night, was questioned if he believed Tierney was captain material and the former Man City and Everton midfielder replied: “Yeah, I do.

“He’s affecting the areas defensively and going forward but what I really liked is when they were really struggling, he was one of the players that didn’t go missing.

“There were only one or two players that could hold their heads high and he was one of them.”

Prior to the match, played partially in heavy snow, Tierney further endeared himself to Arsenal fans and neutrals as he warmed up in just a t-shirt in shorts, while other teammates were wrapped up in warmer gear.
