The former Red Devils striker is struggling to understand why a raid on the Saints would be launched after tying down Edinson Cavani
Dimitar Berbatov has warned Manchester United not to sign Southampton striker Danny Ings, saying an attack on St Mary’s “makes no sense”.
Although Edinson Cavani has just signed a new 12-month contract with Manchester United, the club is looking for attacking talent.

United have been interested in Harry Kane and Erling Haaland for some time now, and both could be available this summer, while a move for England international Danny Ings has also been discussed.
WHAT DID YOU SAY?
In a bet with Betfair, Berbatov commented on United’s interest in Southampton striker Danny Ings:
“I RATE HIM AND THINK HE IS WHAT UNITED NEED AT THE MOMENT BUT WE DON’T NEED HIM AT THIS STAGE.”
“The club have pretty much everything they need in the striking department at the moment, lots of experience and pace.
“Edinson Cavani keeps scoring, proving his worth and proving how good a decision it was to give him a contract extension, he scored an unbelievable goal the other day against Fulham.
“SO, WITH ALL THIS IN MIND GOING FOR DANNY INGS MAKES NO SENSE TO ME.”
WHY DOES UNITED WANT INGS?
While a deal has been done to keep Cavani at Old Trafford, he is 34 years of age and will be due to hit free agency again in 2022.
It is imperative that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s squad has a long-term leader, especially since Anthony Martial remains a question mark.
Mason Greenwood is expected to fill a central role at some point, but the teenager will not be rushed out of an impact role and spot on the flanks.

Another number nine would aid the Red Devils’ cause, with various options being considered.
With the experience he has playing in the Premier League, Ings may be more tolerant of rotation than a Kane or Haaland, who might expect to be United’s main man.
In 97 appearances for Saints, he has scored 46 goals with 46 assists since leaving Liverpool last year.
