Leicester have been awarded more penalties in the Premier League than anyone else this season and a study reveals they have the highest penalties-per-game rate (PPG) in the top flight of the last decade.

The Foxes have been given a free shot at goal on TEN different occasions, scoring eight of them.

And that’s been a recurring theme with the Foxes boasting the highest rate of penalties awarded since the beginning of the 2010/11 season, at 0.21 per game.

Just behind Leicester are Blackpool who were given eight spot-kicks in their only season in the top flight over the last ten years.

In third is Manchester City, who have the same PPG rate as Leicester and Blackpool and have won more penalties than both but are lower down having played significantly more Premier League matches since the 2010/11 season started.

There’s a narrative that Manchester United get given a lot of penalties but the Red Devils are only fourth in these charts with a penalties-per-game rate of 0.19.

Liverpool, who Leicester take on in talkSPORT’s GameDay clash on Saturday lunchtime are sixth with 68 spot-kicks in 402 Premier League outings, which is a PPG rate of 0.17.

Chelsea have the same PPG rate as the Reds, but the Blues are pipped to sixth having being given 67 spot-kicks in 402 Premier League matches.

There’s also one penalty in it between the two north London clubs, with Spurs being awarded 50 penalties to Arsenal’s 49 having played an equal amount of matches.

Leeds, who won promotion back to the top flight after a 16-year absence, have shot up the PPG table having been awarded three of them this season which they’ve scored.

Below you can see the Premier League‘s top 20 in terms of highest penalties-per-game rate over the last decade, with thanks to Paddy Power.
