Southampton are interested in signing Leicester outcast Demarai Gray, according to reports.

The 24-year-old is not in Foxes boss Brendan Rodgers’ long-term plans having made just two appearances in all competitions this season.

Gray, a Premier League title winner with Leicester in 2016, is out of contract this summer.

The Sun claim Southampton are keeping tabs on the winger, while Marseille, Monaco and Benfica are planning talks with him this month.

With his deal running out in six months’ time, Gray can already sign a pre-contract agreement with an overseas club – though not one of Leicester’s English rivals.

Last month, Rodgers admitted ‘a fresh start’ could be what Gray needs to kick-start his career.

He said: “It’s pretty clear with Demarai that he’s looking to move on. His attitude to training has been first class, he has been very professional.

“He is at the stage of his career where he has been here a long time and hasn’t maybe nailed down a place. A fresh start may be the course for him.

“I will always respect him and until his last day I will never discard him but it’s looking more than likely he will probably be somewhere else next season.”

Gray joined Leicester for £3.5million from Birmingham in January 2016.

He made 14 appearances as the Foxes lifted a first ever Premier League title in his debut season.
