A host of the most ambitious citizens of the continent were willing to create their own enterprises, be it Leipzig or Salzburg.
The Red Bull system’s roster of talents begins. Erling Haaland, Sadio Mane, Timo Werner, Dayot Upamecano, Naby Keita.
If the RB Leipzig, Red Bull Salzburg, New York Red Bulls, or Red Bull Bragantino players make their mark, the system is so special that every club’s vision is the same for its players.
There is no wonder that a number of former Red Bull team members are now employed with other top-clubs when it comes to talent recognition and scouting.
Red Bull fingerprints can be found almost everywhere, from AC Milan to Chelsea, Monaco to Southampton, and the same can be said of Eredivisie Vitesse outfit.
Now sports director for the Netherlands team, Johannes Sports, once the chief scout at Leipzig, has taken his former fellow staff back in Arnhem.
Sporshows take his influence from Ralf Rangnick – a guy called the ‘godfather’ of contemporary German football, like so many coaches and sports leaders in Europe.
Rangnick made his name as both Red Bull’s boss and sports manager, and Spors aims at putting into effect what he has experienced under age 62.
“He knew he’d play and he knew he’d play back if he did poorly.
“I still remember the first two matches that were replaced half time or before half time as Upamecano came to Leipzig. He played Aubameyang Pierre-Emerick and had a yellow card, a second penalty, and Hasenhuttl Ralph would replace him.
“He knew he would play and if he played badly, he knew he would play again.
“I still remember when Upamecano came to Leipzig, the first two matches he was substituted at half-time or before half-time. He played against Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and got a yellow card, made a second foul and Ralph Hasenhuttl had to substitute him.
“HE DIDN’T KILL HIM FOR MAKING A MISTAKE OR NEARLY MAKING A MISTAKE. HE BROUGHT HIM BACK AGAIN RIGHT AWAY, AND THEN YOU SEE DEVELOPMENT. IT IS IMPORTANT YOU SEE THE RIGHT LEVEL OF PLAYING TIME, THAT’S IMPORTANT.”
“It is an ambitious club which wishes to cultivate youth players as a whole. The target is Europe. If we’re frank with ourselves, Europe League or Conference League, not Champions League.
“It’s not possible, honestly, when it comes to winning the league. There is such a huge budget gap between us and Ajax, PSV, Feyenoord and even AZ Alkmaar. Yet we’re working to fill the void.
“NATURALLY, THIS SEASON YOU SEE, WE ARE IN THE CUP FINAL, AND WE ALWAYS WIN IN THIS COMPETITION. WE HAVE TO TRY VERY HARD IN THE LEAGUE TO BRIDGE THIS VOID.”
