Alan Shearer believes any ‘half decent’ centre forward would score 30 Premier League goals with Manchester City as he identified three main targets for Pep Guardiola.

Harry Kane, Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland may well be three of the most coveted and lucrative strikers in world football and the former England and Newcastle captain feels City should be prepared to make a move.

Shearer remains the greatest goalscorer in Premier League history with 260 goals, while Citizens striker Sergio Aguero on 180.

The Argentine is out of contract at the end of the season, with Barcelona reportedly interested in bringing the 32-year-old to the Camp Nou.

Aguero appeared to have his continued absence behind him as he got over an ankle injury, only for City’s record goalscorer to test positive for COVID-19 to rule him out of action once again.

Shearer, who won the title with Blackburn in 1995, has watched Guardiola’s side launch an incredible assault on the table since November to sit top – seven points clear of defending champions Liverpool.

Despite City’s dominance, the 50-year-old told talkSPORT another world class striker at the Etihad would help propel City into the European elite as they chase the elusive Champions League trophy.

“Well there are two or three that I am sure could do a job,” he said on Kick Off.

“But one would be Kane, the other one would be Mbappe and the other one would be Haaland, but that is easier said than done getting one of those players into your football club.

“I’m not talking about trying to get Harry Kane to leave Tottenham because we all know what he feels about that football club, but he is an outstanding forward.

“You know, any half decent centre forward in that Man City team would and should score 30 plus goals a season – that’s league goals – not just any goals.

“With the chances that they create and the balls that they put into the box, with those players in that team, with De Bruyne and Ilkay Gundogan and Bernardo Silva and Raheem Sterling, all these players in there.

“I think a half decent centre forward should get 30 goals.”
