Antonio Rudiger has backed Kai Havertz and Timo Werner to rediscover their best form following their difficult start to life at Chelsea.

Havertz, who joined the club for a fee of £71miillion from Bayer Leverkusen last summer, has shown glimpses of quality but has struggled on the whole since his move, netting just one goal in 18 Premier League appearances this term.

Werner, meanwhile, is on a barren goal drought where he has failed to find the net in 14 Premier League matches but has nonetheless played an important part in Chelsea’s recent resurgence under new boss Thomas Tuchel.

It is understood one of the reasons why Tuchel was appointed was to help bring the best out of Havertz and Werner at Stamford Bridge.

And Rudiger is confident his two compatriots will be firing on all cylinders in in the near future.

“Our relationship is good. I’ve known the guys for a long time, especially Timo. I already played with him in Stuttgart. But I already know Kai from the national team,” the Chelsea defender told Sky Sport Germany.

“They are very talented guys, maybe in a little slump right now, but if you saw Timo’s performance against Sheffield United, then he was very important to us.

“He makes a lot of runs and I think the goals will come.

Rudiger also highlighted how difficult it might be for Werner and Havertz to live abroad for the first time.

“That applies to both of them. This is their first experience abroad, they have only been in Germany so far, have only ever been in a safe environment, as I would call it.

“This is new territory for them and my job is to help them. I encourage them and I am just there for them.

“But at the end of the day they have to do their own work on the field.”
