Arsenal defender Gabriel Magalhaes has been forced to self-isolate after coming into contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19.

The Brazillian joined the Gunners this summer in a deal worth around £27m from Lille. He has made 15 appearances in all competitions so far this season.

Gabriel has made 12 starts in the Premier League this season. He has been one of few bright sparks for the Gunners during their poor start to the season.

Mikel Arteta’s side are down in 15th and they are without a win in seven league games. The Londoners have only picked up four league victories from their 14 league outings so far this term.

Arsenal host Frank Lampard’s Chelsea on Boxing Day. Gabriel being unavailable is a blow to the Gunners, who have conceded 18 goals so far in the Premier League.

As reported by The Independent, he is set to miss Arsenal’s next three games against Chelsea, Brighton and West Brom. Once his isolation period ends, he will be available to return for Arsenal’s FA Cup tie against Newcastle United on January 9.

Pablo Mari and Rob Holding come in to start at centre-back with Gabriel being unavailable. Willian and David Luiz also miss the Chelsea game through illness. Arteta has confirmed that the two former Chelsea players have not tested positive for COVID-19.
