West Ham are also considering a fresh move for King after having a £13m bid rejected in the summer.

The Norway international is out of contract in the summer and is understood to be keen on a return to the top-flight.

King is yet to get off the mark in the Championship this season, with his only two goals so far coming in a 4-1 win over Oldham in the FA Cup on January 9.

Quizzed about King’s future earlier this month, Cherries boss Jason Tindall told the Daily Echo: “Josh has been fine in training.

“He’s not told me he’s desperate to go to West Ham. I don’t know who he has said that to – I’d be very surprised if he has said that because he’s a Bournemouth player now.

“His main priority is what he does for this football club until anyone else tells him otherwise.”

Discussing the topic on Friday’s White & Jordan, talkSPORT reporter Alex Crook revealed that King’s ideal destination this month is the London Stadium.

“Josh King came very close to joining West Ham in the summer, but the clubs couldn’t agree a fee,” Crook said.

“Since then it’s been on, off… and now it might be on again. The Hammers are struggling to sign a striker from elsewhere after making enquiries around Europe.

“I’m told there’s every chance now they might come back in for Josh King between now and the deadline.

“The other club with a genuine interest in King are Burnley, who have of course been taken over.

“Despite their heroics at Anfield they have struggled for goals this season, but – and it’s a big but, King is looking for around £120,000-a-week and that would smash Burnley’s wage structure.

“He would have to lower his demands if that was to happen. And at this stage West Ham remains his preferred destination.”

Meanwhile, Everton are believed to have cooled their interest in King due to his apparent lucrative wage demands.

King could have joined Manchester United, the club where he began his career in England, this time last year but the deal failed to materialise on deadline day.

“How close it was I have no complete answer. I have to watch what I say,” King said at the time.

“I had some faith that it was going to happen. And it was a bit sensitive for me considering that I moved to England as a 16-year-old to achieve my dream and wanted to reach that goal at Manchester United.

“It did not [happen] and then I made a choice and left. When you hear that you are connected to United and a bid comes in, then the feelings you had as a 16-year-old come back to you.”
