Darren Bent claims Harry Kane could leave Tottenham if they do not finish in the top six this season.

The England captain has scored 207 goals for Spurs, but is yet to win a trophy in north London.

Kane is chasing down records, though, with Billy Greaves and Alan Shearer holding the top scorer crowns for Tottenham (266) and the Premier League (260), respectively.

However, Bent insists Kane is ‘too good of a player’ to remain at Tottenham just to break records.

He told Friday’s Drivetime on talkSPORT: “The Europa League will buy them some time, it’s a European trophy at the end of the day.

“To say a League Cup will keep Harry Kane there for the immediate future… this guy has got to be playing in the Champions League.

“If he stays there, he will break Jimmy Greaves’ record, we know he’s going to do that.

“But is that enough? People always compare him and Alan Shearer.

“What people forget about is that Shearer had already won the Premier League [with Blackburn] before he went to Newcastle, so that’s already on his CV.

“Harry Kane hasn’t won anything, so he’s too good of a player to stay somewhere just to break records. Other than Bayern Munich, who have [Robert] Lewandowski,

“Harry Kane could walk into any other team in the world as a centre-forward.”

Tottenham are sixth in the Premier League table and level on points with Everton, who have a game in hand.

Spurs missed the chance to climb into the top four as they were beaten 3-1 at home by Liverpool on Thursday.

Bent added: “If they finish outside the top six this year, there would be cause for concern. He [Kane] would be looking to leave at the end of the season.

“But if they win the Europa League they’re in the Champions League, so I think he’d give it another year.”
