Everton praised for not giving Paris Saint-Germain option to buy Moise Kean

Everton may be kicking themselves for letting Moise Kean join Paris Saint-Germain on loan this season given how brilliant he’s been.

The striker struggled hugely at Goodison Park last season, scoring just two goals in 33 appearances for the Toffees.

He’s shown exactly why the Toffees paid Juventus £29million for him this term. The only issue is that it’s been in PSG colours.

Kean has 15 goals in 27 matches for the French side, supporting the likes of Neymar and Kylian Mbappe up front.

Everton haven’t struggled to score goals in 2020/21 but must wonder what might have been had they kept hold of the Italian.

However, French football expert Julien Laurens pointed out how Everton still have the advantage in the negotiations should PSG try to sign him on a permanent deal.

“It was very clever by Everton and [director of football] Marcel Brands not to put any option to buy there because if he hadn’t done well in France he would have come back, then he’d start again,” Laurens told Hawksbee and Rushden.

“Carlo Ancelotti arrived in December where I think he had other priorities other than to get Moise Kean back on form. Maybe Carlo could take on that project if Moise Kean was going back to Everton.

“There’s so much talent there, I don’t really know why it didn’t happen for him at Everton. I think he would succeed anywhere if you gave him the time. Let’s not forget he’s 21 years of age.

“And now Everton can pick the price. PSG don’t have much money to spend in the summer unlike the big clubs as they’re working hard on renewing Neymar and Kylian Mbappe’s contract.

“The idea from PSG’s point of view is they’ll want a good price for him, don’t ask for £50million because that’s not going to happen. Around £30million is a good price, perhaps a bit more because of his age and the good season he’s having.

“Or maybe you loan him again and put in an option to buy for £40m for PSG when they have more money. That’s the way I think PSG will approach it but if Everton want the money they can’t go too high.”
