No one expected Aston Villa’s youngsters to have a chance against Premier League champions Liverpool but they acquitted themselves brilliantly in the first half.

A coronavirus outbreak has swept through Villa’s senior squad this week which put the tie in serious jeopardy of taking place.

The Villa side is made up entirely of Under-18 and Under-23 players, with no first-team players to take part.

Klopp showed no mercy by naming the likes of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Jordan Henderson and Georginio Wijnaldum in his team.

It looked certain to be a rout with Mane opening the scoring early after just four minutes.

But it was far from easy for Liverpool, though, with Villa’s youngsters well organised and keeping the champions at bay.

They stunned the Reds just before the break when former Barcelona youngster Louie Barry found himself through on goal and neatly finished past goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher.

James Milner appeared to be furious with his Liverpool teammates after the goal went in.

Barry, 17, comes with plenty of pedigree having signed for Barcelona aged 16 years old.

It’s understood he snubbed the likes of Liverpool and Manchester United to play at Barca’s famous La Masia academy.

Last year the striker made a return to England as he joined Villa, who he’s supported his whole life.
