Denmark faces Finland in the opening game of the UEFA EURO 2020 tournament in Copenhagen. 1992 winners Denmark will be looking to make the most of home advantage. Finland is making their UEFA European Championship debut in the 2020 competition.

Denmark beat Finland 2-1 in a friendly in Esbjerg on 15 November 2011. Aleksei Eremenko gave the visitors an unexpected lead after 17 minutes. Daniel Agger and Nicklas Bendtner scored two goals in three minutes to seal victory. Finland are without a win in Denmark since a 2-0 friendly success in September 1949. Denmark’s home record against Finland since that 1949 defeat is W18 D3.

Denmark made their ninth appearance in the UEFA European Championship. They were eliminated in the group stage at UEFA EURO 2012. Denmark have lost their last two games in the EURO final tournament, and three of the last four. They have lost only one of their last 11 matches in the final in Denmark. Denmark are one of five teams to have reached UEFA EURo 2020 unbeaten along with Belgium, Italy and Spain.

The Danes are the only team who did not finish top of their group at the 2014 European Championships. They are also one of the only five teams who have reached the tournament unbeaten.

FACTS ABOUT FINLAND:

Finland are making their UEFA European Championship debut at UEFA EURO 2020. They are one of two teams in Group C, along with North Macedonia. This is Finland’s first major tournament appearance since the UEFA World Cup in 1998. Teemu Pukki scored ten of Finland’s 16 goals in qualifying and was involved in 68.75% of their strikes. Finland are the 34th country to have qualified for the tournament.
