Ravel Morrison has had his contract at ADO Den Haag terminated… just four months into his one-year contract.

The 27-year-old Jamaica international midfielder joined the Dutch club in September 2020 after he was released by Sheffield United.

He spent just one season at the Premier League side, making four appearances.

And Morrison has now left ADO Den Haag after playing just five games in the Netherlands, with the club confirming his exit by mutual consent on Saturday.

“The roads of ADO Den Haag and Ravel Morrison will separate immediately,” read a club statement.

“ADO Den Haag and Morrison have decided to terminate the 27-year-old midfielder’s contract by mutual agreement.

“ADO Den Haag thanks Morrison for his efforts and wishes him the best of luck in his further career.”

It’s the latest ill-fated spell for the former Manchester United starlet, whose story is one of unfulfilled potential having once been hailed by Sir Alex Ferguson as ‘the best young talent he’d ever seen’.

Morrison signed his first professional contract as a 17-year-old at United, but left Old Trafford in 2012 having made just three senior appearances, and without playing a Premier League game.

He moved to West Ham where he enjoyed a brief spell of form when he was 20, but he soon became a bit of a nomad, with loan spells at Birmingham City, Queens Park Rangers and Cardiff City, before signing for Lazio on a free.

But it didn’t work out for him in Italy, either, as he returned to QPR on loan before a brief spell with Mexican outfit Atlas, and then left Lazio to sign for Ostersund.

After six appearances in six months in Sweden, he then moved back to England to sign a deal with Sheffield United, but his return wasn’t a success as he was soon shipped out to Middlesbrough on loan before being released by the Premier League side.

Morrison also played for England Under-16s, 17s, 18s and 21s but never did enough to receive a call-up to the senior squad, but changed his allegiance to Jamaica last year and made his debut for the Reggae Boys in November.

Rene Meulensteen reveals how Man United tried to help Ravel Morrison: “We left no stone unturned in trying to get him on the right track.”
