Frank Lampard conceded Chelsea were ‘beaten by the better team’ after Leicester outplayed his side in a 2-0 victory at the King Power stadium.

The Blues boss is now under serious pressure at Stamford Bridge after his side succumbed to a fifth defeat in their last eight Premier League outings.

Wilfred Ndidi and James Maddison struck in the first half to lift the Foxes above Manchester United at the summit by a point, while Chelsea slipped to eighth in the Premier League after West Ham defeated West Brom earlier on Tuesday.

talkSPORT was told there was a good chance Lampard could be dismissed if he failed to win at the King Power, and he admitted his side are desperately short of confidence following the match.

Asked to sum up his side’s display, Lampard told talkSPORT: “We were beaten by the better team. It wasn’t good enough from us.

“Individual battles we lost and players are short on confidence and form.

“Leicester look like a team in form and we look out of form. That’s been the case over the last few weeks and the results have said so.”

Chelsea were just two points off the top of the Premier League six weeks ago and Lampard believes his side’s recent slump has stemmed from complacency.

Asked to explain the barren run of form, Lampard added: “It’s whether people got complacent. I know I didn’t because I know how much of an endurance test the Premier League is.

“I never felt we were in for title challenge talk because I never felt the squad was experienced enough or in the position to challenge.

“In the few weeks where we’ve dropped our level it’s shown.

“Leicester’s a tough place to come but we need our players to perform at the top end of the pitch. We haven’t contributed enough goals in games like this.

“When you’re playing top teams you need your players at the top end getting your goals.”
