Ebere Eze did former club QPR a favour as his wonderful solo goal helped Crystal Palace to a 2-0 win at home to Sheffield United.

The midfielder went on a stunning run where he fended off two challenges from Blades players before beautifully caressing the ball into the corner of the net.

That put Palace two goals to the good after Jeffrey Schlupp, who Eze came on for in the first half, gave the hosts an early lead.

QPR will be grateful for this strike by their former player as it ends an awful Premier League record they had held since 2012.

They held the title of going on the longest winless run at the start of a Premier League season in 2012/13, having not claimed a victory in their first 16 matches of the campaign.

However, that unwanted record now belongs to Sheffield United, who are still searching for their first three points of the season with 17 matches already played.

QPR fans will be sad to see Eze, 22, no longer producing magic in the blue and white hoops but will be grateful for his four years of service.

But one club that will be kicking themselves are Millwall, who let Eze go as a youngster in 2016. talkSPORT’s David Connolly, who worked at Millwall’s academy while Eze was there, shed light on why things didn’t work out for the midfielder at the Den.

Shortly after the goal, Connolly said told talkSPORT: “I’m so pleased for him, he’s such a terrific lad. He always had a smile on his face.

“It took him a long time to reach the top, he never had a chip on his shoulder. He took all the little hurdles, the bumps in the road in his stride. He kept going and found a home in QPR and has shown what a terrific football player he is.

Connolly revealed why Eze and Millwall were never a good match

“At a club like Millwall, the manager has a great say in things like who gets the contracts, who doesn’t, who fits into the philosophy.

“At that moment it was a 4-4-2…there wasn’t really a 4-3-3 style of play for an Eze or a No.10 so to speak and he was very unhappy in his second year because it was made clear that’s where he had to play [on the left] and that’s where he had to deliver performances.

“Millwall’s loss was QPR’s gain because he scored a hat-trick against Millwall at Harlington as a No.10 because he had a free role that day.”
