As if the race gave Chelsea a shot to finish silverware and finish again in the top four, there were thoughts on the transfer window in summer. Tuchel has, however, called for restraint before the start of the summer market.

In January Tuchel succeeded Frank Lampard as the Blues boss. Afterwards, the Blues were undefeated in all competitions to win a record 14 game.

In the last weeks of the season, the Blues manager discussed potential summer signatures with his club

Though Chelsea has been connected to Erling Haaland, Sergio Aguero and a host of defensive skills in the past few weeks, Thomas Tuchel maintains he would not ask for a big revision in the summer.

What exactly was said?

“TO BE HONEST, I WOULD BE A HAPPIER COACH NEXT SEASON IF WE HAD A TRADE BAN TOMORROW,”

Tuchel told reporters. “So that we can drive this squad to the next stage and limit, like we do. But, of course, I have ideas about how to strengthen this squad.

“It’s very complex because, first and foremost, we have a very strong squad with a strong bond, which needs outstanding characters. That is the most important thing because we have top guys in the locker room, and I will not let anybody spoil that by having a negative impact in there.

“IT’S NOT LIKE A PUZZLE WHERE YOU CUT OUT ONE PIECE AND REPLACE IT WITH THE NEXT.”

Every transfer market is in a tough position. So I’m totally relaxed right now because, of course, we have some suggestions, some profiles that we think we might apply to this category to make it a little more competitive, with more choices.

“With the pandemic worldwide, there is yet another strange scenario. It is important to adapt and be patient as a club. Can a competition still exist? What’s the look like? In what are we able to invest? Are there even prospects for money generation? Are our players interested?

“ARE OTHER TEAMS WILLING TO BUY US PLAYERS? WILL AND DO WE BUY? CAN WE BUY? SO FOR ME, IT IS BETTER TO HAVE PATIENCE, AND I AGREE WITH THE CLUB NOT TO RISK OUR HEAD.”

WHAT ABOUT CHELSEA’S EXISTING PLAYERS’ DEAL SITUATIONS?

Contracts for Andreas Christensen, Antonio Rudiger, Cesar Azpilicueta, and Thiago Silva both expire in the next 15 months. In Silva’s situation, his contract expires in three months, but the club has an option to extend it for another year.

Tuchel’s view on activating the alternative in the coming months hasn’t changed despite the 36-year-old Brazilian’s latest thigh injury.

With some of their own players on the backline under contract, the Blues have considered signing defenders such as Bayern Munich duo David Alaba and Niklas Sule.

“HE HAS NO NEED TO SHOW ANYTHING TO ME,”

He said. “I recognize him. He was my captain in Paris, and he’s a fantastic football player. The fifth on the practice field, the last to leave. He looks after his family at home. I know what he’s doing to stay in shape.

“My judgment doesn’t make his age the most important because he may be 28 or 29 easily. He is very careful that he will play at this stage. I think this is an excellent step for Chelsea because some of the players find life a bit smoother, at the end of his career.

“AS A MANAGER, YOU SHOULD BE COMPLETELY CERTAIN THAT IT IS A GREEN LIGHT, ONCE IT PROVIDES THE GREEN LIGHT. I EXPECT NOTHING LESS THAN A HIGH SCORE. HE IS EXCITED FOR TOMORROW.”
