The Swedish national team confirmed that Zlatan Ibrahimovic will not be playing in the upcoming European Championship because of an injury.

During AC Milan’s recent 3-0 win over Juventus, the striker suffered a knee injury.

Stefano Pioli initially hoped the injury was only a knock, but now it appears the 39-year-old will require a long period of recovery.

On Saturday, Svensk football released the following statement via Twitter:

“Today, Zlatan has informed [head coach] Janne Andersson that his injury will stop him from participating in the European Championships this summer.

“Get well, Zlatan, we hope to see you on the football field again soon!”
