Liverpool fans will be worried sick about where their season is heading and talkSPORT’s Adrian Durham was the bearer of more bad news for them.
The Reds suffered a sobering 1-0 defeat to Southampton on Monday night, with Jurgen Klopp’s side registering just one shot on target in the match.
They’re still top of the Premier League but have handed the initiative back to the likes of Manchester United and Manchester City in the title race.
City had no problems when they were in action at the weekend as they swept aside Chelsea, winning 3-0 at Stamford Bridge.
Kevin De Bruyne was at the heart of the stunning performance, made better by the fact he was playing out of position and in a false nine role.
This is where Roberto Firmino regularly plays for Liverpool, but Durham believes this weekend’s results reveal something that Reds fans will hate hearing.
“Kevin De Bruyne’s a better No.9 than Firmino, I think we’d all agree,” Durham told Drivetime.
“I think even Liverpool fans would have to admit that and that must be quite a sobering thought for a lot of Liverpool fans.”
Durham also had plenty to say about Firmino’s teammate Mohamed Salah, who has been linked with a move away from Anfield in recent months.
“And also, I think there’s a good case to say that maybe Salah’s head has been turned by Real Madrid. We shall see,” he added.
As good as De Bruyne has been for City there’s uncertainty about his future with reports suggesting he may not sign a new contract.
The Belgian’s deal runs out in 2023 and Pep Guardiola believes the player will sign an extension. However, Durham can see him playing elsewhere.
“I have this image of Kevin De Bruyne in a Real Madrid or Bayern shirt, one of those giants,” Durham said later in the show.
