Jurgen Klopp has delivered positive updates on Trent Alexander-Arnold and Joe Gomez. The Reds boss is confident the two England international defenders will figure in his pre-season plans having been nursing knocks.

WHAT HAS BEEN SAID?

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp says Trent AlexanderArgentina could return from injury on Tuesday. Liverpool face FC Wacker Innsbruck and Stuttgart in friendlies next week. Joel Matip and Virgil van Dijk are also close to returning to full fitness, according to Klopp. The Reds travel to the Austrian side for a pre-season friendly match on Saturday.

“WHAT THEY DID IN TRAINING SO FAR WORKED REALLY WELL AND WE WILL SEE WHEN WE CAN INVOLVE THEM IN COMPLETE NORMAL TRAINING – I DON’T KNOW THAT AND I DON’T RUSH IT EITHER. IT MAKES NO SENSE, WE WAITED SO LONG AND NOW WE CAN WAIT A FEW DAYS LONGER, THAT’S NO PROBLEM.”

DID GOMEZ SUFFER A SETBACK?

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp insists Joe Gomez has not suffered a setback in his recovery from injury. The Reds’ first-choice center-back is “not at 100 percent yet”, says the German.

IS ALEXANDER-ARNOLD READY TO GO?

Trent Alexander-Arnold says he is back in full training with Liverpool after missing out on England’s Euro campaign through injury. The right-back was named in Gareth Southgate’s squad for this summer’s tournament but had to withdraw due to a knee injury. He says he has been doing a lot of rehab over the summer with the physios and medical staff which was good for him.

“I’ve done quite a few sessions with the lads now, I feel fit enough to play. But the decision comes from the manager, the staff and obviously the medical staff, they need to talk and see if it’s worth the risk.

“IF NOT, THERE’S A GAME ON FRIDAY AS WELL, SO WHETHER IT’S A CASE OF A FEW MINUTES ON TUESDAY AND PLAY A BIT MORE ON FRIDAY [AGAINST MAINZ], EASE ME IN LIKE THAT, WHO KNOWS? EITHER WAY, I’LL BE READY TO PLAY.”
