However, they were separated after six years as club teammates when Suarez, 33, left to join Atletico Madrid last summer – must to the dismay of Messi.

Messi’s Camp Nou contract expires at the end of the season and recently spoke of his desire to play in MLS in the future.

He told Spanish TV channel LaSexta: “I always had the dream of being able to enjoy and have the experience of living in the United States, experience what the league there is like.”

Spanish radio station Catalunya Radio reports that Messi and Suarez will reunite at Inter Miami, with former England, Manchester United and Real Madrid star Beckham the co-owner.

However, this won’t happen until the summer of 2022 when Suarez‘s deal at the Wanda Metropolitano runs out.

This gives other clubs hope of signing Messi, who would have no shortage of options should he finish his Barcelona contract. The Argentina admitted that no decision would be made until June though.

Messi added: “No [I won’t talk with other clubs because] I don’t have anything clear until the end of the year.”

“I am going to wait for the season to finish. The important thing is to think about the team and to try and win titles, not to get distracted with other issues.

“I don’t know what will happen. I am focused on what we have in front of us over the next six months. It would not be right to tell you what I am going to do after that because even I don’t know.”
