The Reds have had to contend with a lengthy injury list with influential players such as Diogo Jota, Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, Jordan Henderson, Thiago Alcantara, Joel Matip, Alisson, Fabinho sidelined at some point this season.

The coronavirus pandemic has also appeared to have an impact on Liverpool, who have not had their fans cheering them on at Anfield, like every other top-flight club.

And it was evident in the Reds’ 1-0 defeat to Chelsea on Thursday as they experienced a fifth successive home loss for the first time in their 129-year history.

Despite the several injuries and playing without fans, one Liverpool supporter has blamed his side’s shocking Anfield form on the red backdrop clashing with the kit.

Explaining his reasoning on Thursday’s Sports Bar, Frank told talkSPORT: “My belief is it’s not just at Anfield, it’s all clubs that play in red like Liverpool, Man United and Arsenal.

“We have red backdrops and we play in red kits.

“I believe it is the colour clash when clubs are passing the ball, it takes them longer to visualise their players.”

talkSPORT host Andy Goldstein made the point that Manchester United are going strong in second place, despite having the same red backdrop as Liverpool at Old Trafford.

Asked by Arsenal legend Perry Groves if Everton’s blue backdrop affected Carlo Ancelotti’s side as well, Frank replied: “Blue is not as bad as red.

“If you’re making a painting and you put a red colour on top of a red, it actually looks worse than blue on blue.

“I can guarantee if Liverpool changed their backdrop to their away kit, they would perform a lot better.

“Even if it only made a 10 per cent difference, in the scheme of things 10 per cent is a lot.”
