The wait is over – Liverpool finally have a Premier League goal.

Jurgen Klopp’s side went into their clash at Tottenham having failed to net in their last four league matches, their last goal coming in a draw to West Brom on December 27.

But that barren run is finally at an end with Roberto Firmino giving Liverpool the lead on the stroke of half time.

It was simple in its conception but very effective with Sadio Mane finding space as he latched onto Jordan Henderson’s ball over the top.

Mane could have gone for goal himself but he took the unselfish option as he found Firmino, who merely needed to make contact to put it the ball in the net from close range.

Relief swept across the Liverpool players and manager as Firmino struck. It was their first goal in 482 minutes of Premier League action and in 93 attempts.

The goals came like buses for Liverpool as they doubled their lead just two minutes into the second half as Trent Alexander-Arnold fired past Hugo Lloris, who could only parry Sadio Mane’s effort back into danger.

Tottenham hit back straight away though as Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s brilliant strike from distance beat Alisson Becker.

The hosts had the ball in the net right in the opening minutes as Heung-Min Son slid a left-footed strike home but the Spurs forward’s goal was chalked off by VAR.

Mohamed Salah thought he’d made it 3-1 but VAR ruled that one out for a handball by Firmino in the build-up but Mane wasn’t to be denied as he slammed in a loose ball with his left peg.
