But Rashford had other ideas

Chances were few and far between, with Bruno Fernandes going closest for United in the first half, while Pogba’s long-range effort in the second half was well saved by Rui Patricio.

The visitors troubled David de Gea a couple of times, with Romain Saiss almost forcing him to tip the ball over the bar while Rayan Ait Nuri gave the United No.1 something to think about late on.

Edinson Cavani put the ball in the net midway through the second half but his goal was ruled out for offside.

But Rashford’s strike in the third of five added minutes did count to put United in second and just two points behind Liverpool, who are top of the Premier League.
