There weren’t any glamour ties in Saturday’s 3pm FA Cup matches but there was plenty of that drama we’ve come to know and love from the world’s oldest cup competition in supply.

Derby’s exit at the hands of non-league Chorley earlier on set the precedent, although it should be noted that it was a depleted Rams side due to a COVID outbreak at the Championship club.

The big shock came at Bloomfield Road as Blackpool defeated Sam Allardyce’s West Brom in a nail-biting penalty shootout.

A pulsating encounter finished 2-2 after 90 minutes with the Baggies coming from behind twice to send the tie into extra-time.

But it was Tangerines goalkeeper Chris Maxwell who proved to be the hero as he saved THREE of West Brom’s spot-kicks to seal a 3-2 shootout win for the League One side.

Burnley almost suffered a humiliation at the hands of a League One side too but they scraped past MK Dons on penalties at Turf Moor.

It only went to penalties because Matej Vydra got an equaliser in the fourth minute of stoppage-time, with Cameron Jerome giving the visitors the lead in the first half.

And there was finally a win for Chris Wilder and Sheffield United as they scraped to a 3-2 triumph at Bristol Rovers.

This is the first time the Blades have tasted victory all season, their last coming in July. It’s also Wilder’s 100th win in charge of the club.
