Newcastle have reportedly agreed the framework for a deal to sign Manchester United defender Brandon Williams on loan this month.

Williams’ club are understood to be happy to leave him leave on loan in January with the Magpies keen to bring in the 20-year-old full-back.

However, the Shields Gazette claims Newcastle aren’t the only club interested in signing Williams, with Southampton also in the mix.

Despite signing Jamal Lewis from Norwich in the summer, Newcastle are looking to bolster their options at left-back.

They have many options at right-back, including Javi Manquillo, DeAndre Yedlin and Emil Krafth.

The same publication added that loan moves appear to be the preferred option with Mike Ashley still looking to sell the club.

The gate money and match-day revenue lost due to coronavirus restrictions has also been factored into the club’s thinking.

Williams enjoyed a breakthrough campaign at Old Trafford last season, but has fallen down the pecking order since Alex Telles arrived from Porto. Williams has played just five times in all competitions this term.

He may be struggling for game time at Man United but Williams is highly rated by club legend Gary Neville.

Neville hilariously said last season: “I like Brandon Williams. What I like about him specifically is he has that look in his eye of someone that would eat his opponent’s nose to win the match.

“Keep going kid! Oh, he can play football which is always a bonus.”

Newcastle are also said to be interested in re-signing Jetro Willems from Eintracht Frankfurt now that he’s back in training after injury.

The Dutchman is out of contract at Frankfurt at the end of the 2020/21 campaign, but has rejected talks over an extension with the German outfit.
