2021’s latest twist has seen Roy Keane, football’s most famous opponent of nonsense, set up an Instagram account.

The Manchester United legend is probably the last person you would expect to find on social media – but here he is.

Perhaps inspired by Micah Richards exposing him to viral videos of himself online, the 49-year-old created his account on Friday.

Keane, sporting an uncharacteristically cheeky grin, marked his arrival on Instagram with a selfie of him and his dog.

Despite being activated less than 24 hours ago, the Irishman’s page is already hurtling towards one million followers.

Like the rest of us, Manchester United responded to his post with excitement, writing the following comment alongside a popcorn emoji: “This is going to be good…”

We can only hope Keane becomes the next Jose Mourinho on Instagram after the Tottenham boss emerged as an unlikely star on the social media app earlier this season.

The Tottenham boss has left football fans in stitches with his posts after or before matches this season.

He exposed his players glued to their phones after a 1-0 win over Burnley, while showing his angry side following 1-0 defeat to Royal Antwerp.

Other posts have included Mourinho eating popcorn while watching a movie on a plane and mocking the November international break.
