They are level on points with league leaders Liverpool, who play Southampton on Monday night.

The Sun claim United could land one of their transfer targets for the right price this month, but would need to offload players first.

And those at risk of being dumped are Daniel James, Jessie Lingard, Sergio Romero, Phil Jones, Marcos Rojo and Brandon Williams.

Winger James, who has been linked with a move to Leeds, has failed to hold down a regular starting spot due to the emergence of Mason Greenwood.

Meanwhile, United have reportedly triggered a one-year extension clause in Lingard’s contract, despite the midfielder making just two appearances this season.

Elsewhere, Jones, Romero and Rojo are all yet to play a single minute of football this term.

Romero is wanted by Brighton, Newcastle have a long-standing interest in Rojo, while Jones, a £75,000-a-week earner, is a target for Sam Allardyce’s West Brom.

Youngster Brandon Williams has struggled for playing time with Solskjaer opting to select Luke Shaw and summer signing Alex Telles ahead of him.

It is believed a January loan move to Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen is in the works for the left-back.

Solskjaer is set to hold talks with the aforementioned players over their futures in the forthcoming days.
