talkSPORT host Darren Bent was left staggered by a Leeds United fan on Sunday night, who boldly claimed Patrick Bamford is ‘as good as Roberto Firmino’.

A member of the Elland Road faithful, Alfie, waxed lyrical about the Whites star on the Boot Room, after watching him inspire Marcelo Bielsa’s side to a comeback win over Leicester.

The Foxes went 1-0 up after just 13 minutes through Harvey Barnes’ strike, but the hosts were put to the sword as Leeds turned it up a gear, with Bamford the star man with a goal and two assists in a 3-1 victory.

It was the latest impressive display from the Leeds ace, who has been tipped for an England call-up after Gareth Southgate was spotted in the stands at the King Power Stadium.

And this Whites fan believes he’s on a par with Liverpool star Firmino, claiming they both play in the same style, but Bamford scores more goals!

“I’m a massive fan of Patrick Bamford,” Leeds supporter Alfie told talkSPORT.

“People say about the amount of chances he misses and the fact that he’ll score three or four goals and then he’ll go missing a little bit.

“But he tries his hardest in every game. He’s the most honest player I’ve ever seen at Leeds I think.

“He’s so honest, he’s hard working, he’ll give you everything.

“In my opinion, he’s just as good as Firmino in the way he plays; he’s got the exact same playing style, and yet he scores more goals.”

“Hold on,” interjected a staggered Bent.

“You think Patrick Bamford is AS GOOD as Firmino? I’m not sure I’d put him in that bracket yet – you’re talking about a Brazil international centre-forward!”

Like Bamford, Firmino is not regarded as the most clinical striker in the Premier League, but it is no secret how crucial he is to keeping Jurgen Klopp’s team ticking in attack.

But Leeds through-and-through Alfie would not back down, insisting Bamford plays a similar role… and does it better!

“I think he is, yeah,” added Alfie.

“He plays the same style as Firmino.

“OK, he doesn’t have the touch or the Brazilian class Firmino has, but the effort, the goal creation, the chances he creates, and his finishing – I think Bamford is as good.”
