Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang reminded us what he is capable of with two goals in a 3-0 victory over Newcastle and led a brilliant socially-distanced celebration with his Arsenal teammates.
The striker was back among the goals during a second-half rout which saw Arsenal academy stars Bukakyo Saka and Emile Smith Rowe run the show at the Emirates on Monday night.
In keeping with Leicester’s James Maddison, Aubameyang celebrated with his teammates from a distance, after Premier League players had been questioned for hugging during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Arsenal have struggled for goals in recent weeks, but that was not the case in the second-half as Saka and Smith Rowe delivered an exciting glimpse of the future for Gunners fans.
The pair combined brilliantly as Smith Rowe, 20, put one on a plate for Saka, 19, to double the lead.
Aubameyang had just three goals before tonight and put his goalscoring woes behind him by grabbing the third with a tap-in, as replays confirmed Cedric had just about kept the ball in play.
While the second-half was trademark Aubameyang, the first-half demonstrated everything that had gone wrong for the forward so far this season.
The Gunners captain, who bagged 22 league goals in his last two seasons, looked like his nightmare campaign would continue when he spurned an open goal.
But hopefully this represents a turning point for Arsenal’s star man, who was back to his electrifying best to open the scoring.
For Newcastle, though, their winless run extends to nine matches in all competitions, despite Steve Bruce making eight changes before the match.
They continue to slip ominously closer to the relegation zone, and pressure from fans on Bruce is unlikely to go away after another uninspiring display.
