Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl insists Danny Ings’ contract situation will not help his form or the club.

The England striker, who has scored 31 goals since the start of last season, has just 18 months left on his Saints deal.

talkSPORT understands Ings is stalling on signing a new contract due to a disagreement over the size of his release clause amid interest from Tottenham.

When asked about Ings’ future, Hasenhuttl told talkSPORT: “There is no agreement. I think these rumours never help anybody. Not the club, not him.

“If you want to concentrate on your game, it’s always easier to know about your future. It definitely gives you a clearer mind.

“For us, as a club, you always have to think about more scenarios than only this one. This is normal.

“We are not at this point to be honest because we still have one-and-a-half years left.

“That is a very long time in football.”

Former Aston Villa and England forward Gabby Agbonlahor insists Ings should snub Tottenham and remain at Southampton this month.

He told Wednesday’s talkSPORT Breakfast: “It’s very tough, isn’t it? You see what happened at Liverpool with him. He didn’t get much game time.

“Southampton is a club he feels at home at and he’s playing football and getting into the England squad.

“Does he want to move now and play second-choice to Harry Kane at Spurs? That could cost him a place at the Euros.

“For me, I’d stay where I am and try and come to an agreement with Southampton.”
