Alfredo Morelos has been slapped with a three game ban for his stamp during Rangers’ win over Hibernian last week.

The incident went unpunished by the referee during the game but the Scottish FA have decided to take retrospective action against the striker.

Just 20 minutes into Rangers’ league clash with Hibs, Morelos appeared to stamp on Ryan Porteous’ thigh, missing the ball completely.

The Sky Sports commentator said ‘it could have easily been a red’ and replays showed how bad it looked.

Rangers accepted a charge of violent conduct for the incident and had until Monday to appeal.

Steven Gerrard’s side went on to win that game 1-0, with Morelos scoring the winner, to increase their lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership.

An extra one-match has been added to the automatic two-game ban due to Morelos receiving a retrospective red card for a forearm smash on Dundee United defender Mark Connolly in December.

Morelos has been sent off SEVEN times during his Rangers career, with five of his dismissals coming in the 2018/19 season.

Last season, he was given his marching orders twice but in 2020/21 has so far not added to his total… during a game at least.

Morelos will miss the Scottish Premiership games against St Johnstone, Hamilton and Kilmarnock.

Rangers are currently 23 points clear at the top of the table having played two games more than Celtic.
