Referee Darren Drysdale and Ipswich star Alan Judge went head-to-head with each other… literally.

The official appeared to square up to the midfielder during the Tractor Boys’ goalless draw with Northampton on Tuesday evening.

Judge was shown a yellow card for his reaction to not being awarded a penalty

Judge went down under a challenge from Northampton defender Peter Kioso inside the box in the 90th minute – and the 32-year-old was in disbelief when Drysdale did not award a spot-kick.

It led to Drysdale and Judge locking heads, before being separated by players.

Subsequently, Judge was shown a yellow card as more drama unfolded in injury-time.

Ipswich ace Flynn Downes was sent off for violent conduct in the third minute of stoppage time as the club’s poor run of form continued.

Drysdale was card happy as six bookings, including a red, were shown in the League One encounter

Paul Lambert’s men have won just four of their last 14 League One matches, which has left them in 11th place.

Ipswich’s struggles have not only been on the pitch either as their training session had to be stopped due to fan protests earlier this week.

Disgruntled supporters threw flares, which led to signage on a fence catching fire, as they called for Lambert to be sacked.

Former Ipswich striker Darren Bent gave his thoughts on the strained relationship between the club’s hierarchy and fans.

“It’s a club very close to my heart,” Bent told talkSPORT. “I started there, I still look out for their results and I speak to a number of fans of the football club and they’re clearly not happy.

“We’re talking about some of the nicest people you’ll meet, they’re not argumentative, they just want to see what’s best for Ipswich and hopefully get them promoted.

“They feel like the core of the club is being ripped out, whether that’s the owner or the manager, they’re not happy with either.

“The fact that we’re seeing flares suspending training – that’s not something that has ever been associated with Ipswich.

“There’s always been a nice relationship between the club and supporters – but now it’s gone sour.

“Something has to change because it can’t continue. This is a club that shouldn’t be sitting down in League One, they’ve been there far too long.”
