How on earth did he miss that?!

Romain Saiss will remember Wolves’ goalless draw at Aston Villa for all the wrong reasons as he somehow squandered a glorious chance which seemed harder to miss.

Saiss managed to miss from here. Yes, really!

The defender had the goal at his mercy when Conor Coady’s header rebounded off the post but incredibly Saiss put the ball OVER the bar from inside the six yard box.

It left the Wolves and Villa players stunned, while Saiss looked like he wanted the ground to swallow him up as he lay on the floor wondering how he managed to miss.

talkSPORT’s Danny Mills was near speechless before labelling it ‘miss of the season’, while commentator Nigel Adderley said the Moroccan managed to ‘defy physics’.

“Oh my word…” a shocked Mills said on commentary for talkSPORT.

Wolves captain Coady couldn’t believe it either

“It’s a fantastic ball in, Coady’s completely unmarked at the far post, does everything almost perfectly, throws himself at it and Emi Martinez is beaten.

“And as it comes back… I don’t know how Saiss has not scored.

“To try and do what he did, I don’t think you can. 999 times out of 1,000, whatever contact you make, it ends up in the back of the net. If I was a defender [trying to clear it], I’d never be able to get that over the crossbar from that position.

“That is unbelievable how he’s missed that. It’s come at him relatively quickly but that has to go down as miss of the season, surely! Is he six inches out?

“I can’t believe Saiss has missed, I’m still working out how he’s managed to do it. I’d have put my money on Nigel Adderley scoring from that distance!”

The Villa Park clash will be remembered for the misses. Ollie Watkins and Ezri Konsa hitting the bar in the first half while Coady was denied by Martinez on two occasions.
