Roy Keane’s arrival on Instagram quite rightly got a lot of football fans excited last week – and it’s no surprise the Man United hero has one million followers already.

Football’s favourite hard nut is probably the last person you would expect to see on the social media site, but here he is.

His first post appeared last Friday – a selfie with his dog which was captioned: “A man’s best friend.”

The Irishman then urged his followers to show some love on Valentine’s Day by uploading a picture from his Nottingham Forest days, being throttled by West Ham’s Stuart Slater and Ian Bishop.

Third, it was a picture of him and his grandson ‘always smiling’. Disclaimer: they weren’t.

But while there is little doubt Keane’s Instagram will be quite the spectacle, one question still remains: who is he going to follow first!?

The 49-year-old is yet to hit the follow button, despite plenty of people on the app we think he might be interested in – it’s just a shame Mick McCarthy is not online.

In fact, talkSPORT got in touch with Betfair to find out who the favourites are…

Who will Keane follow first on Instagram?

  • Micah Richards: 2/1
  • Gary Neville: 5/1
  • Jamie Carragher: 7/1
  • Paul Scholes: 12/1
  • Marcus Rashford: 14/1
  • Jose Mourinho: 20/1
  • Cristiano Ronaldo: 20/1
  • David Beckham: 25/1
  • Patrick Vieira: 25/1
  • Paul Pogba: 33/1
  • Kylian Mbappe: 33/1
  • Lionel Messi: 40/1

Micah Richards is an obvious front-runner, and given his unlikely bromance with Keane, it’s possible the former Man City defender inspired the move to Instagram.

It’s surely no coincidence that Richards exposed Keane to viral videos of himself online just days before the former United captain arrived on social media.

Asked about his irresistible positivity and blossoming bromance with Keano, Richards recently told the talkSPORT Breakfast: “Of course, I’m always firing on all cylinders, up and at ‘em!

“You’ve got to attack the day with positive vibes!

“Roy Keane, because I’m the blue half of Manchester, you always have respect for those guys and their careers, but never did I think that we would have a relationship like that!

“Working with him is just an absolute pleasure, a massive blessing.

“Honestly!

“Sitting beside him, sometimes I look to the right and I’m just in awe of the guy.

“He’s an incredible character and just a top guy.”

And when discussing the light hearted content on the Breakfast show, Ally McCoist revealed he hopes he doesn’t follow anyone.

“Before we go any further, his post wishing everybody a happy Valentine’s Day and showing a bit of love to everybody, was fantastic,” he said laughing as he defended a claim it was ‘boring’.

“He’s getting strangled by Ian Bishop and there’s somebody coming over behind him to finish him off.

“I just thought it was excellent, I really did.”

Keep it going, Roy, was the overall message from McCoist.
