Phil Neville has only got the job as Inter Miami head coach because of his friendship with former Manchester United teammate David Beckham, believes Simon Jordan.

And the talkSPORT pundit has also claimed he’s only got a job in Major League Soccer, and given the role by one of his mates, because he’s not good enough for a managerial role in England.

Jordan has previous with the Nevilles, having branded Gary’s punditry and Man United bias ‘dull as dishwater’… as well as laughing at his failed spell as a manager with Valencia in Spain.

And the outspoken pundit has now turned his attention towards his brother, Phil, who is reportedly set to end his tenure as head coach of the England Women’s team to take a job in the United States.

Neville’s contract as Lionesses boss was due to expire in July 2021, but it’s expected he will end his deal early to join friend and fellow Class of ’92 graduate Beckham in Miami.

But Jordan says he hasn’t got the job ‘on merit’.

Ouch.

Asked about Neville’s upcoming move Stateside, Jordan told talkSPORT host Jim White: “I think it’s an opportunity that’s been afforded to him by somebody he knows.

“I’m not entirely sure that his abilities merit it.

“I don’t think people look back on his tenure as the England Women’s manager with any great degree of affection.

“And I think the reason he hasn’t been given opportunities is I don’t get the impression that he’s the greatest of coaches.

“Now he gets the opportunity to go to Major League Soccer; David Beckham’s name puts stardust on things, and Phil Neville gets an opportunity to stake a claim.

“That tells you about his ambition, and good luck to him, but I don’t see Phil Neville as a top coach in this country and that’s the reason why he probably hasn’t been given an opportunity.

“He may well be a decent coach but we’re talking about making the move from a coach into being a manager.

“That’s where my reservations about Phil Neville as a natural leader cause me concern, in so far as I’m concerned about him, concerns about whether he has the chutzpah or the chops to be a top manager.

“I think there’s an element of ‘jobs for the boys’ here. Would he get the job if David Beckham wasn’t involved?”

Yes, we had to Google ‘chutzpah’, too.
