One question put to him was whether he would rather retire or play for Spurs, to which he replied: “Easy question. Retire!”

Being an Arsenal player, even one who looks set to leave the club and has not played all season, it was an easy question for Ozil to play up to the club’s fan base.

I mean, Arsenal hating Spurs and vice-versa is not exactly a secret now, is it?

Tottenham manager Mourinho was asked about Ozil’s comments in his press conference ahead of his side’s game against Fulham, and replied with a joke at the midfielder’s expense

“Who told him that Tottenham would be interested in signing him?” said Jose in response to Ozil.

Mourinho famously fell out with Ozil while the pair were at Real Madrid together.

In fact, the German ace once got so angry he threw his shirt at Mourinho – although he actually wanted to chuck his shoes at his then boss!

The 31-year-old revealed in his autobiography that Mourinho began by taunting him, saying: “You think two beautiful passes are enough… you think you’re so good that 50 per cent is enough.”

Ozil continued the story, writing: “He pauses. Stares at me with his dark brown eyes. I stare back. Like two boxers at the stare-down before the first round.

“He shows no emotion. Just waits for a response from me.

“How much I hate him right now. And I love Mourinho actually.”

That was when Ozil threw his shirt at Jose, but the boss reacted by telling him to put it back on.

The Portuguese then said: “Oh, are you giving up now? You’re such a coward. What do you want? To creep under the beautiful, warm shower. Shampoo your hair? To be alone? Or do you want to prove to your fellow players, the fans out there, and me, what you can do?”

Ozil continues: “I’m so p****d off. I’d like to throw my shoes at his head.

“I want him to stop and finally leave me alone. ‘You know what, Mesut’, Mourinho said. ‘Go ahead and cry. You’re such a baby going to take a shower. We do not need you’.

“Slowly I get up, grab my towel and walk past him without a word, without taking a look at Mourinho.”
