Tottenham could face competition from Real Madrid for Julian Nagelsmann should they decide to target the RB Leipzig boss if they sack Jose Mourinho.

Reports on Tuesday suggested that Mourinho could be running out of time at Spurs following a poor run of results that has left them ninth in the Premier League.

Nagelsmann has been touted as a possible target but talkSPORT have been told it won’t happen before the end of the season.

The north London club could then have a fight on their hands to sign the German, who has impressed at Leipzig.

“It certainly wouldn’t happen before the end of the season. He is the type of guy that very much likes to stay until the end of the season and he made Leipzig wait a whole season before leaving Hoffenheim to go there,” Kevin Hatchard told talkSPORT.

“He’s very much a man of his word in that sense. I think he’s looking at the Premier League, I don’t think there’s any question about that.

“Chelsea had him on their list as well and is understandably very highly rated. He’s an intelligent guy, very good tactically, very good in terms of man management.

“He’s been in the senior coaching world since he was 28 and it takes some chutzpah to deal with guys who are older than you and tell them what’s what.

“I’ve been massively impressed by him. A lot of clubs will look at him if Zinedine Zidane got the push at Real Madrid.

“Real would go back in for him so it may well be a question for Tottenham over who else goes for him.

“He’s got a difficult position at Leipzig. He wants them to win trophies, he wants to push the team on but he knows what the financial reality is in terms of FFP and he knows Timo Werner is gone, Dayot Upamecano is going at the end of the season.

“It’s hard to build a team if your top stars are leaving every summer.”
