His first problem came when his right foot got caught under Thiago Alcantara following a foul from the Spanish international.

It looked like he’d run it off after some medical assistance and he was playing a key role for Spurs, dropping deep and linking play.

But not long before half-time Kane was down again after a clash while going for a header with Jordan Henderson.

Kane appeared more rocked by this blow and while he eventually picked himself up and finished off the 45 minutes, it was always touch and go whether he would re-emerge.

At half-time, after 10 minutes of the break, manager Jose Mourinho was swiftly ran out to talk with Harry Winks and Erik Lamela.

It was soon apparent Kane would leave the game and now the club will be sweating on the extent of the problem, while Serge Aurier was also substituted.

The big worry for Tottenham is that ankle injuries have plagued their star man in the past.
