PSG superstar Kylian Mbappe drew comparisons to Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo with a scintillating hat-trick against Barcelona.

Antoine Griezmann, who was on the losing side as his France teammate ripped through Barca, suggests the 22-year-old can reach the levels of football’s two generational talents following his Nou Camp heroics.

Sharing the pitch with Messi for the first time on the domestic scene, Mbappe totally outshone the six-time Ballon d’Or winner as PSG took a 4-1 lead home from the last-16 first-leg.

Messi had put the hosts in front from the spot, but the 33-year-old was far from his usual self as Mbappe stole the show in the absence of the injured Neymar.

Barcelona were unable to get near the Frenchman as he equalised and then put the Ligue 1 champions in front, before Everton’s Moise Kean continued his loan success by adding another for the visitors.

Mbappe’s third was the pick of the bunch, a stunning curling effort on the break, leaving Barcelona with it all to do against PSG in the Champions League once again.

Griezmann said: “Kylian Mbappe had a great night. PSG has a great star for the future, who will be at the level of Leo Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo.”

Meanwhile, Man United star Marcus Rashford took to Twitter praising Mbappe’s display, writing: “What a performance”.

Speaking on commentary for talkSPORT 2, former Republic of Ireland international David Connolly said: “He was absolutely sensational, he was brilliant.

“If you stand off him, he turns and runs at you, if you get too tight, he can roll you.

“You can see his confidence grew as the game went on because he was trying more flicks and tricks and everything came off.

“His finishing ability was brilliant. He had the lot tonight and he was almost unplayable.”
