Victor Lindelof is not ‘quick’ or ‘aggressive’ enough to partner Harry Maguire at Manchester United.

That is the view of Old Trafford icon Paul Scholes, who has admitted he has been left less than impressed with the Swedish defender this season following their 3-3 draw with Everton on Saturday.

Having thrashed nine-man Southampton by a Premier League record-equalling 9-0 scoreline last Tuesday, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men left Old Trafford on Saturday evening reeling from a late gut punch as Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored with the last kick of the game to secure the Toffees a point at the death.

The Red Devils have now conceded 30 goals in 23 Premier League matches this season, and Scholes admitted that he doesn’t believe Lindelof has enough quality alongside Maguire.

Asked if they have a shot at the title with their defensive stats, Scholes said: “Defensively-wise, no.

“We all know they’ve got a lot of goals in the team but as Bruno [Fernandes] said, their defence has just not been good enough.

“It’s hard to put your finger on it as well because you look individually and they’re okay. Maguire is a good defender.

“I still have question marks against Lindelof. I always will.

“I don’t think he’s quick enough to play alongside Maguire, I don’t think he’s aggressive enough.

“Wan-Bissaka, defensively has always been good. Luke Shaw has had a really good run of games, he’s been brilliant going forward, defensively he’s been okay as well.”

United are five points behind table-toppers Man City in the race for the title, having played a match more than their local rivals.

Solskjaer’s men have a trip to West Brom this weekend as they look to get their campaign back on track.
