Wayne Rooney was officially confirmed as the new Derby County manager on Friday and the former England international has admitted he “can’t wait” to get going.

Rooney has been in temporary charge of the Rams since Philip Cocu’s sacking in November and guided the club to three wins and three draws in December.

And now the former Manchester United record-breaker has signed a permanent deal that will keep him at Pride Park until 2023.

Rooney sat down with the club’s official media channels after the announcement was made and admitted he was raring to go.

First up for Rooney is a home game with Rotherham on Saturday.
