Is Costa heading back to the Premier League? The striker has now left Atletico and mulling over his options

Costa is understood to have asked to leave Atletico for family reasons, where he only had six months left on his deal.

Nuno Espirito Santo is currently without star striker Raul Jimenez who is set for a prolonged period on the sidelines with a fractured skull in a sickening collision with Arsenal’s David Luiz last month.

Teenage sensation Fabio Silva has filled the void in Jimenez’s absence, but Santo is in desperate need of some extra firepower.

Costa, who returned to Atleti from Chelsea in 2018, scored just 19 goals in 81 games in his second spell with Diego Simeone’s side.

Following Luis Suarez’s arrival in the summer, Costa found his game time limited this term.

Dubbed a pantomime villain during his successful stint in the Premier League, Costa scored 52 goals in 89 games for Chelsea from 2014 to 2017 following his £32million move to Stamford Bridge and helped the club win two league titles.
